Storyboards

Both me and my other group member were certain on what particular scenes we wanted. However, we were unsure of what order to put them into so we decided to make two different stroyboards to help us. From this we will put our footage onto the software and arrange the clips in these two different ways but with the music to see which storyboard would be more realistic and which one would look better. These storyboards are like a template for our montage music video and we will use them during the making of our video.

Lowestoft Broad - Second Day of Shooting

Below are stills from when myself and Zoe visited Lowestoft for the second day of shooting. This time, however, we visited the Lowestoft Broad as there was a wide variety of boats and dinghies. Similarly to the first day of shooting, we managed to capture footage at sunset time as the reflection of the sky on the water was magnificent. Just after the sun set, when it started to become dark, the lights surrounding the boats bought the scenery to life. We, as a group, thought that these scenes would be ideal for our theme of boats as it gives a relaxing and calm feel.

Shooting Schedule UNFINISHED

Sunday 29th September 5:30pm - 6:30pm

I decided that it would be good to visit Lowestoft beach around this time to capture some sunset footage before it reached winter so that we could record it whilst the weather was nice. This was advantageous to us as we managed to gain some impeccable footage. I also had to consider a few days before what time the sun set so we could get there on time to gain the best results. We, as a group, were planning to have the ending of our music video set during the end of the day so scenes in the sunset perfectly represent this . During our visit to the beach, I also managed to take some stills with a camera to show evidence of the location and how we interpreted it.

Sunday 6th October 5:45pm - 6:45pm

A week later, myself and the other person in my group visited the same location, however, we took footage of a slightly different area. The area of our primary focus, was preferable as it contained a wider variety of boats which strongly reflects our theme to our song 'Boat Song'. We managed to reach our location just after the sun began to set so we could gain scenes of twilight lighting in the early hours of the evening. This was ideal as the broad, neighbouring the beach at Lowestoft, had many lights that began to light up just as the twilight hour began. These lights made our footage very
idyllic as it gave liveliness and theme to the scenes. Me and my opposing group member compromised and agreed that next time we visit the beach (whether that be Lowestoft or elsewhere) we will go earlier on in the day so we can capture daytime scenery which will come before our other footage. Not long before visiting Lowestoft for the second time, we had decided that Zoe would be the main character in our music video as our other character we had in mind wasn't particularly reliable. This second time upon visiting to shoot , I managed to film Zoe amongst the boats at the broad. We, as a group, thought having a girl as the main character for the music video (instead of our original male actor) would be more suited than a boy as the song is sung by a male to a girl, to which we decided that girl would be Zoe.

Lowestoft Beach - First day of shooting

Me and Zoe visited Lowestoft beach around 6 in the evening as we wanted to catch the sunset. We were so lucky to spot a little boat in the distance as soon as we arrived. As we arrived the sun was just setting and the sky turned bright pink, reflecting onto the sea. This scene of the little boat on the pink reflected sea was complimentary and ideal for our music video.

Planning: Location Ideas UNFINISHED

Yarmouth/Pleasurebeach

We came up with the idea to visit Yarmouth as it's a traditional British seaside location with the Pier, pleasurebeach, boats funfair, fish and chips shops and arcade, all of which is located next to the beach. It has been a seaside resort since 1760, and is the gateway from the Norfolk Broads to the sea. For hundreds of years it was a major fishing port. This would be ideal to capture footage of the fishingmen at work. We feel that this location would be perfect as we could get plenty of footage from the pier as well as in the arcade or even the Pleasurebeach which is full of rides.

The funfair/pleasurebeach is ideal for certain shots as it's bright and joyful which could potentially make a cloudy/rainy day turn into a jubilant scene for the music video.
At night time, many of the arcade along the side of the seaside light up with bright lights in the dark. The bright lights and colours of the arcade will bring the song to life as it's quite a relaxed, slow paced song.
Southwold Pier

The soutwold Southwold Pier is a pier in Southwold, Suffolk, East Anglia, England. It's a fun-filled family location which includes a collection of modern coin-operated novelty machines. The traditionally English, old fashioned pier attracts tourists from all over East Anglia.
The location of the pier (both on the pier and beside it) is ideal for our music video. As it's a relaxing venue which suits the theme of the song altogether.
Holkham Beach

One of our other options for one of our locations in our music video is Holkham Beach. Holkham beach is optimal as it offers impeccable scenary and superb sunsets. A good sunset is important for us as we were considering a sunset on the front cover of our album. The scenery from this location would be ideal for the more chilled parts of the song for example, the beginning and the ending of the song.

Lowestoft Beach

Lowestoft is another place which is archetypal for our music video as it offers relaxing scenery with gorgeous sunsets. The beach is flat and sandy with the occasional pebals. Beside the beach is a small pier with family entertainment, surrounded by fountains.

Jungle Doctors UNFINISHED

When browsing through SoundCloud i typed into the search bar "unsigned British bands" and from this it came up with a selection of playlists. I clicked on the first playlist that was recommended and from this it came up with a wide selection of songs performed by British unsigned bands and artists. I went through several songs that appeared. However, one band that really stood out was an indie rock band called 'King No-One'. They had a song that really appealed to us called ' Vulpix'. I had sent them an email to receive approval for us to use their song 'Vulpix' for our music video and they responded very quickly saying that they would happily let us use it as it may promote their band. We decided that we very quickly rushed into choosing this one song as our final choice. Therefore, we decided to research further into the genre of indie rock/pop bands that were very familiar.

When we researched further we came across another band called 'Jungle Doctors' that had several songs that we particularly liked such as 'Boat Song' and 'Fugitives'. We favourited 'Fugitives' over 'Boat Song' however the more we listened to 'Boat Song' the more ideas we came up with. Suddenly, we came up with several ideas to film on British seasides and coasts as this strongly represents British indie/pop culture as coastal scenes are very typically British.

The song 'Boat Song' that we found originally has a music video of the band performing the song. However, we got their permission to create our own music video as long as we made sure that we made it clear on YouTube that it was a remake. The shots in the music video are clips of the band individually and altogether, giving the audience a feel of seeing the band live.

A music video I found that is similar to the ideas we have for our music video is a song called 'Isles' by Little Comets. The sound of the song is a very similar style to Jungle Doctors with a range of composed indie rock guitars and drums. The clips from the Little Comets music video are a montage of typical British scenes and people. This makes the song feel more British. Both this music video and our future music video will be a montage of scenes and people to represent Britain instead of having a storyline.

Another music video that I came across of a different genre consists of seaside footage throughout the video both on a rainy day and a sunny day. The video, however, tells a story. The story looks like the elderly man is visiting the beach in which he and his lover went to when they were young and happy. Momentarily, he is no longer with her but is still visiting the seaside. The rainy day at the seaside of the man by himself suggests that she may have passed away. This will differ from our music video as ours won't tell a story. Despite the fact our music video will be a montage, this 'Shiver' music video contains similar footage to what we want to include in our music video.

Getting Permission From The Band

Above is the Email that I had sent to the band Jungle Doctors, asking permission for us to create a music video for their song 'Boat Song'. Below is the response from the band's manager, Steve, agreeing to the making of a music video for that song. Although, he did recommend completing their latest songs as it may promote it more. He also stated that when we upload the video anywhere online we made sure that we made it very clear that it wasn't the band's official video. If our music video is succesful and they approve of it, they would happily put it up on their youtube channel. By recieving this email, it encourages us to work really hard towards achieving an outstanding music video that the band will hopefully approve of so that they will maybe post it onto their channel.

I then recieved another email but this time it was from the actual band (above) who approved and said they would happily let us create a music video for their song 'Boat Song'.

Chosing our song

Favourite - Jungle Doctors 'Boat Song'
https://soundcloud.com/#jungledoctors/jungle-doctors-boat-song

As a group, me and Zoe have favourited this one, in comparison to the others, as it opened up many ideas and themes with the name 'Boat Song'. Straight away it gave us many beach/boat related ideas.
